Animals in Garden Paws can become pets, mounts, or their drops can be farmed as resources.
Obtaining[]
The first and most available method of obtaining animals for new players involves taming wild animals roaming the islands. For specific spawn locations, see Detailed Map or Kozita Detailed Map.
Certain animals are not found in the wild however, such as baby animals and most of the rare or unique variations (not including Legendary Mounts). Instead, they can be obtained through one or more of the following methods:
- Purchasing: Until breeding is unlocked, baby animals can only be bought from NPCs. Animal sellers currently include Poppy, Mr. Jones, and Jacob (Mr. Mooney's assistant).
- Breeding: Breeding allows players to create new baby animals in unique colours. Not all animals can be bred, but the list is growing.
- Quests and Museum: Animals are sometimes given as rewards for completing tasks for NPCs, or completing certain display cases for the Museum.
- Loot Crates: A popular way to try and get rarer animals is with animal-specific loot boxes such as Animal Mystery Boxes, Animal Mystery Bags, and Bunny Easter Crates. They can also be found as an occasional treasure in Loot Chests, but the chance is low.
- Festival Games: Breaking Decorative Eggs during the Spring Festival, playing the tile matching game at the Summer or Winter Festival, and the balloon pop game at the Summer Festival can sometimes give out animals as rewards, including rarer ones.
- Dungeon: Mob loot from the dungeon can sometimes include animals such as chicks.
Keeping and Using Animals[]
Resources[]
An animal placed in a habitat will drop 1 random item every morning, such as feathers, eggs, wool, fur, or even geodes. These can be sold, used to complete quests, or as a material in crafting recipes. Some items, such as Alpaca Fiber, can only be obtained this way.
Cows and Goats can be interacted with using a Wooden Bucket to obtain Cow Milk or Goat Milk.
All animals drop poop, which can be used to craft Basic Fertilizer or requested by NPCs in some quests. There is a rare chance for animals to drop Golden Poop. Some animals do not drop anything other than poop.
Animals themselves can also be sold in the player's shop to earn extra coins.
Pet Followers[]
The player can have an animal follow them by placing them in the pet slot of the Inventory (the paw icon on the left).
Some can be dyed different colors at a Dyeing Station, but they will only show in the world as their new color when in the pet slot.
Animals in the pet slot do not provide any perks to the player, will not drop resources, and cannot be interacted with unless the animal is mountable.
Riding[]
Many animals are also mountable while equipped in the pet slot. A "Ride" option will appear when the player is near the animal. Pressing E (X on a controller) will mount the animal. Pressing F (A) will dismount.
Animal Display
Depending on the animal, movement speed and jump height may be increased or decreased. Riding is only available with adult animals.

Displaying Animals[]
Animals can be placed inside special storage containers to display them in the world. Currently there are 3 items that can be used in this way:
- Animal Display
- Plush Dog Bed (smaller animals only)
- Crystal Paw from the Potion Paws crossover item set.
Animals placed inside the Animal Display and the Crystal Paw will appear in the world as standing on the display, but they will not move around or drop items. The Plush Dog Bed allows them to move around normally and drop items, but it cannot be used for larger animals and mounts.
